Wednesday night’s emphatic 4-0 victory away to Romanian champions CFR Cluj means Bayern are through to the Champions League first knockout round with two games to spare. “My team played extremely well tonight,“ enthused Louis van Gaal. Club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was delighted for a different reason: “Now we can concentrate exclusively on the Bundesliga.“
Reaction to Cluj v Bayern:
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “We were very disciplined and played well. The win means we’re through, and it’s also our best-ever start. Now we can concentrate exclusively on the Bundesliga, because we want to climb the table. And I have hopes we’ll manage that over the next few weeks."
Louis van Gaal: “My team played extremely well tonight. I was particularly pleased with our tactical discipline, it was very good, and we attacked well too. And Mario’s scored three goals, that’s great."
Mario Gomez: “We wanted to win, and we’ve done so. We made a few mistakes in the first ten minutes, but we were very good after that. We were asleep at the start of the second half, we rode our luck at times. But all in all, it was fully deserved. We’re already through to the last sixteen, and we’re delighted."
