The Champions League meeting with FC Basel is a dead rubber from a Munich point of view as Bayern have already won Group E, but the Bavarians are still determined to beat the ‘other’ FCB. “It doesn’t matter for the table, but there’s still something at stake, i.e. a win for us. It would boost our confidence, and that’s vital for [the league meeting with St Pauli on] Saturday,” said Bastian Schweinsteiger prior to the European clash on Wednesday (Live in English from 8.30 pm on Web Radio, highlights from midnight on FCB.tv).
“We don’t have to win, but we want to win,” agreed Thomas Kraft, who will keep goal as a stand-in for rested first-choice keeper Jörg Butt, just as he did two weeks ago in Rome. “We lost away to Schalke, so this match is important to restore the good mood here,” continued Kraft.
