Chairman's Christmas message

Happy holidays, Bayern fans!

Season’s greetings to all our members, friends and fans,

The year 2010 is slowly but surely drawing to a close, a good time to cast an eye back over the events of the last 12 months. I think we can agree that 2010 was fundamentally an excellent year for FC Bayern. In May, we won the German championship for the 22nd time, before turning in an outstanding performance to beat Werder Bremen and claim the DFB German Cup, completing the eighth domestic double in our history.

We can also be delighted with our showing on the European stage. On 22 May, we contested the Champions League final for the first time in nine years. After magnificent displays against Fiorentina in the Round of 16, Manchester United in the quarter-finals and Olympique Lyon in the semi-finals, we were just unable to surmount the last hurdle and fell 2-0 to Inter Milan in Madrid.

The first half of the 2010-11 campaign provokes mixed feelings. In the Champions League, we qualified for the knockout stages as group winners with a game to spare. In late February and early March next year, we have an opportunity to take revenge against Inter and progress to the last eight in Europe.
