In the build-up to the final fixture of 2010, Bayern are once again facing a crop of selection problems. Hamit Altintop is definitely out of Wednesday’s DFB Cup Round of 16 tie against VfB Stuttgart, with Bastian Schweinsteiger and Andreas Ottl both considered doubtful for the game.
Altintop is struggling with a groin injury and was substituted at half-time in Sunday’s Bundesliga fixture away to Stuttgart. Ottl is the latest victim of a flu epidemic which has swept the Bayern squad since last week. The defensive midfielder was unable to train on Monday.
Light exercise for Schweinsteiger
Schweinsteiger, who missed Sunday’s game with the flu bug, is now on the road to recovery and was able to complete a light workout in the FCB performance centre on Monday. However, boss Louis van Gaal said the player was a doubtful starter for the second clash with VfB in the space of four days.
Ivica Olic and Toni Kroos are definitely out of the cup meeting, and neither Holger Badstuber nor Arjen Robben is expected to return to the squad prior to the mid-season break.
