A couple of weeks before Christmas, there was a double treat for the Bayern faithful on Saturday, as the champions beat St. Pauli 3-0, and Bastian Schweinsteiger announced a new long-term deal with the club. The mood in the FCB camp was suitably upbeat afterwards. “Schweinsteiger’s signature was the most important thing, but obviously, a 3-0 win over good opposition is important too,” commented Louis van Gaal.
Reaction to Bayern v St. Pauli
Louis van Gaal: “I’m the kind of coach who pursues long-term goals. Schweinsteiger’s signature was the most important thing, but obviously, a 3-0 win over good opposition is important too. My assistant coach informed me that St Pauli are one of the most attractive and courageous teams in Germany. I’m signing up to that view today. I hope they remain in the Bundesliga. They way they play football is good for the league. They made it very difficult for us today. St Pauli could have scored the opening goal, we were lucky there. But I’m very satisfied, because that was a good display from my team. Once we went 2-0 up, it was over. It's our Christmas party tonight and we visit the fan clubs tomorrow, so it was good to win today.“
