Bayern's Säbener Strasse facility was quiet again on Monday, as Jupp Heynckes awarded his men their second day off since the resumption of training after Christmas on 2 January. It was a last chance for the players to grab some R&R, because the final spurt of hard work starts on Tuesday, when FCB home in on Friday's restart fixture away to Mönchengladbach.
Following the final mid-season friendly in Erfurt on Sunday, Heynckes offered a positive summary of the winter training period so far. “Overall, we're well prepared," the coach commented, reviewing two weeks of training including nine punishing days in Doha and Delhi, and five friendly victories, with 28 goals scored and just one conceded. In the 4-0 success against Erfurt, Heynckes said he was pleased with “very good passages and very good moves," although he also found a few points to criticise.
