It was a mere seven-and-a-half weeks ago that Ivica Olic was last at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg, venue for the Match Against Poverty in mid-December last year. The game in a good cause featured a UN World XI spearheaded by Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and Luis Figo, and a Hamburg side which included a clutch of the northern club’s former stars such as FCB man Olic.
On Saturday, the 32-year-old returns to the club where he scored 29 goals in 78 Bundesliga appearances between 2007 and 2009, prior to joining the nation's biggest club in Munich. “I'm looking forward to going back to Hamburg. There’s always a special atmosphere there, and I think it's one of the best stadiums in the Bundesliga," Olic said after squad training on Thursday.
For all his fondness for his former club and team-mates, Ivica and the Bayern stars are not travelling north just to revel in the special Hamburg atmosphere. More to the point, the men from Munich intend to follow up last weekend's victory over Wolfsburg with another win, ensuring they remain top of the standings. “We're currently trying to set off on a winning run," Olic stated.
