Bayern were more than comfortable winners against Hoffenheim on Saturday, with 23 shots to their opponents four, 61 percent of the possession and - ultimately the only statistic which matters - seven goals scored and only one against. The thumping victory means Bayern cement their grip on second spot in the table, and also moved to within five points of leaders Dortmund, who were held to a goalless draw in Augsburg. All in all, it was a good day for FCB.
“That was a wonderful game of football. We were able to sit back and enjoy it after 20 minutes, which hasn't been the case for a long time," commented FCB president Uli Hoeneß after Munich's second-biggest win of the season. The result was also the perfect way to warm up for Tuesday's make or break Champions League last sixteen return against Swiss champions FC Basel.
