Bayern and Croatia goal-getter Ivica Olic is clearly a cautious man by nature. Reporters wanted to know when he had been told he would start Tuesday evening’s Champions League quarter-final return at home to Olympique Marseille. “I found out two days before," the player revealed, “but I didn't believe the coach. It was April the first – April Fools' Day." Naturally, Ivica delivered his statement with a trademark grin.
Jupp Heynckes was, of course, not joking. In the light of Bayern's intense schedule, featuring 15 matches in seven weeks, the coach again decided to introduce fresh legs to his starting line-up against OM. One of the new faces belonged to Olic, who richly repaid the boss’s faith with both goals in the 2–0 victory. It was the striker’s 25th Champions League appearance, and he now has 26 goals in the competition.
