Fourth new arrival

Pizarro returns to Bayern on one-year deal

Five years after leaving Munich to try his luck elsewhere, Peru striker Claudio Pizarro is returning to Bayern after signing a one-year contract with Germany's biggest club on Friday. The man nicknamed Pizza is FCB's fourth newcomer for the 2012/13 campaign, joining midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, centre-back Dante and keeper Tom Starke.

“We're delighted we've been able to sign Claudio Pizarro, an internationally experienced and very prolific forward," commented Christian Nerlinger. The FCB director of sport met the Peruvian international in the course of Friday evening's Spanish cup final between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao in Madrid, where the popular striker inked his new contract.

Pizarro previously hit the goal trail for Bayern between 2001 and 2007, scoring 71 times in 174 Bundesliga appearances and helping FCB to the domestic double on three occasions. The 33-year-old spent a season with Chelsea before returning to Werder Bremen, another of his former clubs, from where he now resumes duty for Munich. Pizza is the most prolific non-German player in Bundesliga history with a total of 160 goals in 333 matches.
