Petersen extends contract, goes out on loan

Nils Petersen will spend the 2012/13 season with Werder Bremen, after FC Bayern, northern rivals Werder and the player agreed the terms of a season-long loan on Friday. At the same time, Petersen signed a one-year extension to his current contract with Bayern, meaning he remains a Munich player until 30 June 2015.

“Nils is a huge prospect as a striker. We want him to have the chance of gaining match practice, which he can do in Bremen,” commented FCB director of sport Christian Nerlinger, “the fact we’ve also extended his contract demonstrates how much we value him. We believe he has a successful future ahead of him in the Bundesliga and with FC Bayern.”

Petersen finished as top scorer in the German second division in 2010/11 prior to making the switch from Energie Cottbus to Munich. He scored four goals for FCB in 15 appearances last term.
