Bayern and Sammer vow to ‘send out a signal’

After two seasons without silverware, Bayern have vowed to reclaim their position as German football's undisputed number one club. Matthias Sammer has been recruited to spearhead that effort as FCB's new board member for sport. A day after Christian Nerlinger’s departure, former German FA (DFB) sporting director Sammer was unveiled to 100 reporters at the Allianz Arena late on Tuesday afternoon.

“We came second three times last season. Next season we want trophies again, we're making no secret of that. And to win trophies, we have to do a little better than last season," declared chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Rummenigge was joined for the busy press conference by deputy chairman Karl Hopfner and FCB president Uli Hoeneß.
