At 3.20 pm on Tuesday afternoon, a 41-day break in the normal rhythm at the club came to an end, and the curtain went up on the 2012/13 season at Bayern. Some 500 fans applauded as Jupp Heynckes led his men onto the training ground. Before that, the head coach, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Karl Hopfner and new board member Matthias Sammer delivered pre-season addresses in the dressing room.
For the first workout of the new term, Heynckes was without all the players who featured at Euro 2012. Schweinsteiger, Ribéry and Co will return to the Säbener Strasse at irregular intervals over the next three weeks. However, Tuesday's group featured 12 members of the first-team squad, including new arrivals Claudio Pizarro, Dante, Xherdan Shaqiri, Tom Starke, Mitchell Weiser and Lukas Raeder. Seven junior players joined the group to make up the numbers on the day.
