Eighth game – eighth win?

Bayern keen to extend lead at the top

What was arguably Jupp Heynckes’ greatest day as a player came in Düsseldorf. On the last day in 1977/78, his club Borussia Mönchengladbach recorded the biggest win in Bundesliga history, a 12-0 thumping of Borussia Dortmund, at the Rheinstadion in Düsseldorf. Heynckes scored five goals, the biggest single-match haul of his career, which he ended after that historic game with 220 league goals to his name.

Heynckes returns to the North-Rhine Westphalian capital on Saturday, but a result resembling that of 34 years ago is unlikely when FCB visit highflying top-flight newcomers Fortuna Düsseldorf (Live in English from 3.15 pm CET on Web Radio). “I think we face a major challenge," Heynckes said in the build-up. Fortuna have taken 10 points from their first seven matches and are undefeated in front of their home crowd in the year 2012.
