Bayern will be without defender Holger Badstuber for at least the next 14 days, the club announced on Monday. The 23-year-old, who has featured in every competitive match so far ths term, ruptured a muscle in his right thigh during Sunday's 2-1 home defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. “It's a bad loss. I hope we can replace him adequately," commented boss Jupp Heynckes, who will now definitely have to reshuffle his defence for Wednesday's cup clash with Kaiserslautern, Saturday's Bundesliga trip to Hamburg, and the Champions League home meeting with Lille on 7 November.
By contrast, Luiz Gustavo came away from Sunday's defeat in better shape. The Brazilian was forced out of the action on 59 minutes after suffering a dead leg, but he is in no danger of missing out against Kaiserslautern. Javi Martinez is also a candidate for the cup tie after resuming the squad training programme on Monday following a groin injury. However, Franck Ribéry continues to struggle with a strain and remains on the doubtful list for Wednesday's match. The French superstar was able to increase his training workload on Monday, but is not yet fit enough for the team sessions.
