Reaction to Hamburg v Bayern

Heynckes: That was first-class

“That was first class, that was outstanding,“ enthused Jupp Heynckes, praising his men after a fine 3-0 victory in Hamburg. Board director for sport Matthias Sammer spoke of a “fine team performance, at a relatively high level. We knew we had to show a reaction here after last week – and that’s what we did.“ Bastian Schweinsteiger was equally satisfied: “It’s been a very good round of matches for us.“

Reaction to Hamburg v Bayern:

Jupp Heynckes: “I’m delighted with the team’s approach. The way we chalked up the victory today was first class, it was outstanding. That’s shown by the team spirit in this group. For example, Franck Ribéry was exceptional today, but Mario Mandzukic was just as important, for his work-rate, pressing and defending. That’s the hallmark of my team at the moment: everyone’s looking out for everyone else, we’re going for success as a unit.

Matthias Sammer: “It was a fine team performance, at a relatively high level. We knew we had to show a reaction here after last week – and that’s what we did. We struggled to begin with, partly due to Hamburg playing with three holding midfielders. You need a little time before you start playing between the lines. On the other hand, you have to be careful you don’t get caught on the break. But we had it under control after 20 minutes.“
