Barely 40 minutes after the final whistle, the Bayern bus was pulling out of the car park at the SGL Arena in Augsburg, bearing a happy group following a comfortable 2-0 victory over the 17th-placed home team. A seventh victory in their eighth game on the road means FCB cemented their grip on top spot in the Bundesliga, and with just one goal conceded away from home, set yet another new league record.
“The team did well today,” chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said contentedly after the clash in Augsburg, especially with Leverkusen suffering a 3-2 defeat in the trip to Hannover, Dortmund controversially losing 3-2 at home to Wolfsburg, and Schalke falling 3-1 away to Stuttgart. “But we’re only looking at ourselves,” insisted Rummenigge. “It’s important we continue to follow the path we’re on with no distractions. The team are doing well in this respect.”
