The stars celebrated with the travelling fans more joyously than usual following Tuesday evening’s 2-0 DFB Cup victory away to Augsburg. And no wonder: Bayern have arrived at the midpoint of the season with a comfortable lead in the Bundesliga, a place in the Champions League knockout stage, and a berth in the cup quarter-finals. “We’re very satisfied. We're well in contention in all three competitions. Especially in the Bundesliga, we've earned ourselves pole position," reflected Karl-Heinz Rummenigge following the club's 54th and last competitive fixture in 2012. “It'll be a happy Christmas for the team," the chairman smiled.
There is no disputing the excellence of FCB's efforts in the first half of the 2012/13 campaign, with only two defeats in 27 games. “We've laid fantastic foundations, but no more and no less," Rummenigge continued, “we've learned from last season not to start singing hallelujah." Board director for sport Matthias Sammer agreed: “We're well in the running everywhere, but you'll never see ‘in the running’ on an autograph card."
