The Bayern squad have arrived safely in Qatar for this season’s winter training camp. The five-and-a-half hour Lufthansa flight from Munich bearing Jupp Heynckes and his men touched down on schedule in Doha at 4.35 pm local time, allowing the players to catch the last few rays of sunshine before dusk. The FCB party transferred directly to the team hotel, ready for the first session of the week in the evening.
“We’re going to Qatar to work uncompromisingly hard, so we can go for it in the second half of the season,” board director for sport Matthias Sammer declared prior to take-off from Munich airport. The players and coaching staff will make full use of the “superb conditions” at the ASPIRE Academy for Sports Excellence over the next seven days, laying the foundations for a successful push for silverware in May.
The stars have enjoyed a 14-day break over the festive period, “and the short holiday has done us good. We’ve recharged our batteries for the rest of the season,” said keeper Manuel Neuer. Bastian Schweinsteiger is raring to go: “We’re already fired up for football again. We haven’t only been on vacation, we’ve been doing some work too. We’re looking forward to getting going,” the midfielder said.
