Over the last few weeks, the question of who might become Bayern boss in the event Jupp Heynckes decided to retire was hotly debated by fans and the media – and also the FCB stars themselves. “Naturally, we were intrigued as well," captain Philipp Lahm revealed in the wake of Wednesday's momentous announcements. Heynckes is indeed stepping down this summer and will be succeeded by Pep Guardiola, much to the delight of the players.
“It's a top transfer, a best-in-class solution," said Lahm, “respect for what our bosses have done. You're never guaranteed to bring in a really successful coach like this. Pep Guardiola has been the best coach of the last four or five years. All over the club, and in the dressing room too, you sense huge anticipation."
