Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s first destination on Thursday morning was the senior dressing room. Prior to the day’s training session, the chairman addressed the players, personally confirming the appointment of Pep Guardiola as head coach for the new campaign.
But with only two days to go until the first fixture of the second half of the season, when Bayern entertain Greuther Fürth at the Allianz Arena, Rummenigge also laid out the team’s duties and responsibilities. “As of now we concentrate on Fürth. We're approaching 17 important Bundesliga matches," the former world-class striker later told a packed media centre.
A day after the official announcement of the spectacular new hiring, Rummenigge returned the spotlight to footballing matters. “It is a big obligation but also a major responsibility for the team to ensure we complete the current season under Jupp Heynckes as successfully as possible. Now more than ever, we must finish as German champions."
