Bayern have twice overcome Arsenal in the Champions League in the past, and are now well-positioned to make it three out of three in their knockout meetings with the Gunners, after Jupp Heynckes’ men planted one foot in the quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory in the Round of 16 first leg. “It’s a good result, but it’s not over yet,” warned Bastian Schweinsteiger, looking ahead to the return at the Allianz Arena on 13 March.

Reaction to Arsenal v Bayern:

Jupp Heynckes: “It always rates as a big success when you win 3-1 away to an English team. We made a terrific start, and especially in the first half, we played some excellent football. Later on, we all saw that our opponents have Champions League quality. We had to roll up our sleeves and work hard. Even after we conceded the goal we looked dangerous on the break, and we threatened in front of goal time and time again. We deserved to win 3-1.”
