Holger’s new deal, Basti a doubt, Huntelaar out

Badstuber poised to extend stay at FCB
Bayern are set to offer a new long-term deal to another of the club’s own youth products: Germany international Holger Badstuber, whose current contract expires in 2014, is poised to ink a three-year extension keeping him with the Reds until 30 June 2017. The club and the player have agreed terms, with Holger scheduled to append his signature to the new contract in Munich this Friday. The 23-year-old, currently recovering from cruciate ligament surgery, joined FCB back in 2002 and has made 101 Bundesliga appearances to date.

Schweinsteiger's ankle causing concern
Bastian Schweinsteiger pulled out of the Germany squad for Wednesday's meeting with France due to an ankle injury, but coach Jupp Heynckes is still hoping the midfielder will recover in time to face Schalke at the Allianz Arena on Saturday evening. However, the player’s injury is a cause for concern: “Bastian's having real problems with the ankle," Heynckes reported on Thursday. The 28-year-old sat out the squad programme for two days at the start of the week, but although he returned to the training ground on Thursday, coach Heynckes is adopting a wait-and-see approach. “It's possible there could be a negative reaction," the boss remarked.

Schalke goal-getter Huntelaar sidelined for Saturday
Schalke are definitely without striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar for the biggest match in the Bundesliga this weekend, Saturday's clash with FCB. Dutch international Huntelaar, who missed his country's 1-1 draw with Italy on Wednesday, is suffering from a burst capillary in his left eye and will not be available for selection. “He's not fit to play at the moment and he’s out of the Bayern trip," commented Schalke boss Jens Keller. The Royal Blues are struggling with a long injury roster at the moment.
