Top dogs Bayern smash six million barrier

The Bayern Facebook community continues to grow at a rapid pace. At around 9 am CET on Sunday morning, FCB became the first German club to pass the six million mark on the popular social networking site. In the space of three hours, the post announcing the milestone had attracted 40,000 likes and 700 comments. At the present time, Bayern boast more than three times as many followers in the world's biggest social community as the second-best Bundesliga club, Borussia Dortmund with just under two million.

By Sunday afternoon, precisely 6,003,151 fans had pressed the ‘Like’ button on the official Bayern Facebook fan page ( The page provides followers with information, news, videos, photos and even a virtual Allianz Arena. And of course, there's every opportunity for fans to voice opinions, leave comments and chat to one another.

Following its launch in early April 2010, FC Bayern's Facebook presence raced to top spot among the Bundesliga clubs. The page passed the five million follower mark in early October 2012. Viewed in a international context, the Facebook page dedicated to Germany's biggest club is one of the world’s most successful club sites. FC Barcelona remain untouchable at the top of the ranking with more than 40 million followers.
