Bayern looked destined for their first draw in 2013 before striking late in Leverkusen to make it nine Bundesliga wins out of nine since the winter break. “The first half was good, but our legs were heavy after half-time," said boss Jupp Heynckes, “but at the end of the day we earned our reward. We're very pleased." Matthias Sammer felt FCB “played well” in the first half, but lacked “determination” after the break.
Reaction to Bayer v Bayern:
Matthias Sammer: “We played well in the first half. We were very alert and kept it relatively tight. In the second half, we weren't as vigourous or determined when not in possession, and that led us into trouble.”
Jupp Heynckes: “We’re very satisfied. It was tough going today after a Champions League evening last Wednesday. That was especially noticeable in the second half. We played well in the first half, we were full of running and played good football. We dictated the pace. We were heavy-legged after half-time, but we gritted our teeth and at the end of the day we've earned our reward.”
