Champions Bayern pursue yet more records

There are four games remaining in the Bundesliga this season. Bayern face Freiburg on Saturday, then Dortmund, Augsburg and Mönchengladbach. Despite mathematically sealing the title at the start of the month, there has been no let-up from the new champions, as shown by their last two matches, the 4-0 victory against Nürnberg and 6-1 rout of Hannover. After all, there’s still plenty to play for, namely records.

The men from Munich have already set a host of new records in this, the Bundesliga’s 50th anniversary season, but there are still plenty of tagets to aim at. “We definitely want to break another record or two,” Philipp Lahm recently confirmed. fcbayern.de summarises a history-making season so far.

Bayern have already set new records for…

  • the earliest and fastest title triumph: both in terms of matchdays (28 / previously: 30, Bayern 1972/73 and 2002/03) and the date (6 April / previously: 18 April, FC Köln 1963/64)
  • the best goal difference after the first half of a season: +37 (previously: +33, Bayern 2011/12)
  • the fewest goals against in the first half of a season: 7 (level with Stuttgart, 2003/04)
  • the fewest away goals against in the first half of a season: 1 (previously 2, Stuttgart 2003/04)
  • best start to a season: 8 wins (previously: 7 wins, Bayern 1995/96, Kaiserslautern 2001/02, Mainz 2010/11)
  • the first five away matches of a season without conceding a goal

Bayern will definitely set new records for…
  • the most points: currently 81 (level with Dortmund 2011/12)
  • the most away points: currently 43 (previously: 37, Dortmund 2011/12, Bremen 2003/04)
  • the most wins in a season: currently 26 (previously: 25, Dortmund 2011/12, Bayern 1972/73)
  • the most away wins: currently 14 (previously: 11, Dortmund 2011/12, Bremen 2003/04)
  • the longest winning streak within a season: currently 13 wins (previously: 10, Mönchengladbach 1986/87 and Wolfsburg 2008/09)
  • the longest winning streak including season overlaps: currently 13 wins (previously: 11, Bayern, March to September 2005)
  • the longest winning streak away from home: currently 9 wins (previously: 8, Dortmund 2010/11)
  • best start to the second half of a season: currently 13 wins (previously: 7, Dortmund 2011/12)
  • the most matches without conceding a goal in a season: currently 19 (level with Bremen 1987/88 and Bayern 2001/02)

Bayern can still beat or equal the records for…
  • the most goals scored (101, Bayern 1971/72) / Bayern currently: 89
  • the most away goals (43, Bremen 2006/07) / Bayern currently: 37
  • the fewest goals against (21, Bayern 2007/08) - Bayern currently: 14
  • the fewest away goals against (5, Bremen 92/93) / Bayern currently: 3
  • at least one goal in every match (as achieved by Köln 1963/64)
  • the best goal difference (+64, Bayern 1972/73) / Bayern currently: +75
  • the biggest lead over the team in second (16 points, Bayern 2002/03 / Bayern currently: 20 points
  • the fewest defeats (1, Bayern 1986/87) / Bayern currently: 1
  • the fewest away defeats (0, Bayern 1986/87) / Bayern currently: 0
