Juve’s quiet confidence

Conte: We've not come here to lose

Italian league leaders Juventus will show respect but no fear when they face Bayern in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, said coach Antonio Conte. “We've been away from the competition a long time, but now we want to show it's no accident we’re in the quarter-finals," the Juve coach announced prior to his team's final pre-match training session at the Allianz Arena.

I Bianconeri (The White And Blacks) arrived in the Bavarian capital on Sunday afternoon, allowing themselves an extra day to prepare for the meeting between the most successful clubs in German and Italian footballing history. Juventus are through to the last eight for the first time since 2005/06, and last made the semi-finals three years prior to that, so Conte was quick to hand the role of favourites to FCB, finalists in two of the last three seasons.

“We're the underdogs. It's terrific that we’re testing ourselves against opponents like Bayern Munich. It's a huge challenge, but we’re determined to play a fantastic game. We're looking forward to a magnificent match in a magnificent competition," said Conte, who supervises a 22-strong squad in Munich and will field a full strength line-up.
