In their renewed quest for Champions League glory, Bayern face a hugely demanding but exciting challenge in this season’s semi-finals after Jupp Heynckes’ men were drawn to play Catalan giants Barcelona. Should FCB overcome incoming boss Pep Guardiola’s former club, they will meet the winners of the second semi-final between Dortmund and Real Madrid in the final on the last weekend in May.
“I'm very happy with the draw," said Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in a first reaction, “Barcelona are the best Europe has to offer, so playing them is very attractive." However, the chairman warned, “it'll be a lot tougher than it was against Juventus," and neutralising the threat posed by four-time world player of the year Lionel Messi will be “a labour of Hercules."
