On Tuesday afternoon, 22-year-old midfielder Thiago officially became a Bayern player when he inked a four-year contract committing him to Germany’s biggest club until 30 June 2017. The man whose full name is Thiago Alcántara do Nascimento had earlier completed the obligatory medical and then took a tour of the club’s Säbener Strasse facility. The midfielder, recently named best player at the U-21 EURO, has been assigned the number six at Bayern.
“I'd like to warmly welcome him to our midst," said FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge at the gifted Spaniard’s official unveiling, “we’re extremely pleased." The versatile and multitalented player had been “on our radar for a sufficient length of time,” continued Rummenigge, describing the deal done with Thiago's previous club Barcelona as “a fair way" of allowing the two-time U-21 European champion to leave Catalonia for the Bavarian state capital.
