Schweinsteiger given all-clear

Relief for Bayern and their fans: the injury sustained by Bastian Schweinsteiger in Tuesday evening’s 1-1 draw with Freiburg is not serious, and the vice-captain should be fit to play in Friday’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Chelsea, FCB chief medical officer Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt announced on Wednesday after examining the player. Schweinsteiger hobbled off the field and had to be substituted, raising fears of a more serious injury, but the midfielder has only sprained his right ankle. He will now receive intensive treatment on Wednesday and Thursday, and is expected to take part in the final training session prior to the Super Cup showdown in Prague.

Record runs maintained in Freiburg

Bayern were denied victory on Tuesday evening by a late Freiburg equaliser, but the treble winners still extended two record runs. The Reds are now undefeated in a club record 29 Bundesliga matches, and have also scored at least once in their last 41 fixtures, an all-time league record. Munich last failed to score back in April 2012 in a goalless draw with Mainz on Matchday 31 of the 2011/12 campaign.
