On the day after successfully negotiating the first fixture of the new Bundesliga campaign, the memory of Bayern’s record-breaking last season was evoked one more time at an official reception for the club at the Bavarian state chancellery. Horst Seehofer, minister president of the Free State of Bavaria, honoured Germany’s leading club on Saturday for the treble-winning 2012/13 season. Speaking “on behalf of the Free State of Bavaria and the entire population,” the minister president expressed “recognition, respect and thanks for the historic achievements of last season. German champions, German cup winners, and Champions League winners – this deserves a special celebration.”

The reception in the gardens of the residence was undoubtedly a special event. “This was the former domain of Bavarian royalty, and I think it's exactly the right location for FC Bayern Munich," said Seehofer, who initially greeted the team, the coaching staff, the club committee led by Uli Hoeneß and the board of directors led by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in the office of the minister president before leading the party to the terrace.

Bavarian flagship

The Bayern party renewed acquaintances not only with the three glittering trophies, but also with 1,100 guests, including the chairman of all official FCB fan clubs based in Bavaria, and some 200 helpers from the recent flooding catastrophe. Wherever he travels around the world, the first thing anyone wants to talk to him about is FC Bayern, revealed Seehofer, describing the nation's most successful club as the Free State’s “flagship".

“It was an unbelievable season with the treble," said Rummenigge in his speech, thanking the minister president for the celebratory reception: “I think this, just like FC Bayern, is something extraordinary." FCB captains Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger presented Seehofer with a replica shirt bearing the number 12, “so you’re perfectly dressed when you're with us," said Lahm.

The minister president immediately put on the shirt and wished the club all the best for the future, “so you continue to provide us with great entertainment, and so that we come together again frequently to celebrate such outstanding and exceptional achievements and trophies."
