Fired up for Frankfurt

Squad debut for Götze away to Eintracht

Bastian Schweinsteiger's cheeky back-heeled goal, Dante skipping over the turf with a cardboard cut-out championship shield, Jupp Heynckes hoisted aloft by his players: images from the fastest-ever title triumph in Bundesliga history remain etched on the memory. Bayern return to the scene of the historic triumph when they travel to Frankfurt on Saturday (Live in English from 3.30 pm CET on Web Radio).

“Last season was good, because we sealed the title in Frankfurt. But that's history now," Rafinha reminded earlier this week. It is a completely new campaign, and after the restart victory a week ago Friday, the task now “is to take the next step," the full-back said.

“But we won't win the league if we stay at our current level," commented Pep Guardiola, knowing his team have plenty of room to improve despite the 3-1 opening-day victory over Mönchengladbach. However, it was only to be expected: “In my very first press conference, I said it wouldn't be easy at the start," recalled the head coach, “but we'll definitely get better."
