Reaction to Bayern v Wolfsburg

Boss: We have to improve in some areas

In the press conference following Bayern’s hard-fought victory over VfL Wolfsburg, Pep Guardiola came across as not entirely pleased with what he saw. “We’ve won the match, but we have to improve in some areas,” the Spaniard commented. Thomas Müller confirmed it had been “anything but a stroll”. However, and at the end of the day, Munich deservedly took the three points: “It was a very good showing from us in terms of fighting spirit,” the match-winning goalscorer said.

Reaction to Bayern v Wolfsburg

Pep Guardiola: “We’ve won the match, but we have to improve in some areas. We’ll sit down and analyse the game. I’m convinced we’ll give good performances in Manchester and Leverkusen.”

Thomas Müller: “It was a very good showing from us in terms of fighting spirit. Wolfsburg made us fight for everything, and it was anything but a stroll. They basically man-marked us in every area of the field. That caused us a few difficulties. We can be delighted about winning, and ultimately it was deserved. Apart from two chances from set plays, I didn’t see a lot of Wolfsburg in attack. Our goal came from an excellent move. I’m really pleased about getting off the mark in the Bundesliga.”

Dieter Hecking (Wolfsburg coach): “Congratulations to Bayern, they have a massive schedule to contend with. So compliments to them for still winning games like these. We had a defensive plan and it worked out very well. In attack, we lacked the determination in the final third to go out and take the lead. At the end of the day, we made one single mistake in defence, but that’s when you see all Bayern’s quality. Nevertheless, we can take away a lot of good things from the match.”

Christian Träsch (VfL Wolfsburg): “We had two good chances to score, but at the end of the day we’re going home with no points. But we can build on the performance, provided we have the same attitude in our forthcoming games.”
