Thiago resumes squad training

On his long journey towards a comeback from injury, Thiago Alcántara took another vital step on Tuesday, as he resumed the FC Bayern squad training programme some 11 weeks after surgery on his ankle. The Spaniard completed the whole of the session supervised by Pep Guardiola and FCB II coach Erik ten Hag. A sizeable group of talented reserve team players and members of coach Heiko Vogel’s U-19 squad helped make up the numbers, as the senior squad is currently reduced to a rump due to international commitments and injuries.

Neuer in goal for Germany versus Italy

Manuel Neuer will keep goal for Germany against Italy on Friday in Milan, national goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke declared at a press conference on Tuesday. The FCB keeper is thus guaranteed an appearance this week, but Köpke declined to confirm whether he would also be between the sticks when the Germans face England at Wembley a week from now. That match would be “the last chance to experiment,” Köpke explained. Before the Germany party sets off for Milan on Thursday, Joachim Löw’s squad will complete a closed training session at Bayern’s Säbener Strasse facility on Tuesday evening.
