Wednesday night’s Annual General Meeting heard plenty of good news about the exceptionally healthy state of Bayern’s finances – but later on there was another burst of positive information from the medical unit regarding Bastian Schweinsteiger. “Bastian has just texted Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. His operation has gone very well,” announced FCB President Uli Hoeneß. “We’re very optimistic that his injury lay-off won’t be as long as we initially feared. It's looking a lot better than we originally thought.” Schweinsteiger underwent surgery on Wednesday to correct an ankle condition arising from a previous operation.

Robben handed Netherlands armband

A prestigious honour awaits for Arjen Robben: the Bayern superstar will captain the Netherlands in a friendly against Japan in the Belgian city of Genk on Saturday. Dutch national team coach and former FCB supremo Louis van Gaal announced Robben’s appointment as stand-in skipper on Wednesday. Regular captain Robin van Persie misses the match with injury.
