Russian champions CSKA Moscow go into Wednesday’s Champions League group meeting with Bayern on the back of a win. Striker Seydou Doumbia scored after eight minutes of the Moscow derby against Spartak, and it proved the only goal of the game. Last year’s double winners are now joint second in the Russian Premier League, level with Spartak and Locomotive Moscow on 33 points and three off leaders Zenit St. Petersburg.
Record streaks extended
The 3–0 victory in Dortmund means Bayern maintain and extend two incredible runs: Germany’s most successful club are now undefeated in their last 38 Bundesliga matches, and Mandzukic, Robben & Co have now scored at least once in their last 50 top flight fixtures. On an individual note, Javi Martínez has yet to lose in 32 Bundesliga appearances (29 wins, three draws) since joining the club, another new record.
Milestones for Boateng and Van Buyten
Two FCB centre backs passed personal milestones in Dortmund on Saturday. Jérôme Boateng is now up to 150 Bundesliga appearances, 65 for Bayern, 75 for Hamburger SV, and his first ten for Hertha BSC. And Saturday’s late sub Daniel van Buyten has now featured in 150 matches for Bayern.
Thiago celebrates comeback
Almost exactly three months after sustaining a serious ankle injury, Thiago Alcántara celebrated his first-team comeback for FCB in the BVB clash. The midfielder came on after 64 minutes of Saturday’s showdown and settled to the task at once, providing the assist for Arjen Robben to score Bayern’s second goal. Thiago picked up the injury on 24 August in the Bundesliga meeting with Nürnberg.
