Manchester United’s form has shown a marked improvement in the build-up to the Champions League clash with Bayern. Following a 3-0 victory over Olympiakos Piraeus in midweek, FCB’s European opponents won their weekend league trip to West Ham United 2-0. England superstar Wayne Rooney was in fine shape and scored both United’s first-half goals, including a screamer from almost 50 yards. The reigning Premier League champions now have 51 points from 30 games and lie seventh in the standings. In their next match David Moyes’ side face a stern test of their credentials in Tuesday night’s Manchester derby at home to neighbours City.

Record runs extended

Bayern’s record-breaking season continues unabated. The 2-0 victory in Mainz was the Reds’ ninth away win on the bounce, equalling the record set last season under Jupp Heynckes. FCB can beat that on Tuesday in Berlin if they defeat Hertha BSC. And with 26 matches played, Munich now have 76 goals in the plus column, more than any team has ever scored before at this stage of the campaign. Saturday’s match was also the 62nd Bundesliga fixture in a row to feature at least one Bayern goal. And Mario Götze’s 86th-minute clincher to make the score 2-0 was Munich’s 12th goal by a substitute this term, a league-leading feat and also a new club best.

Audi Star Talk with Müller
