Reaction to FCB v S04

Robben: We enjoyed that

Bayern proved they are unstoppable at the moment in a scintillating 5-1 victory over Schalke, with a truly impressive display in the first half. “It was one of the best halves of football I’ve seen since joining Bayern. What pace, what aggression,” said hat-trick hero Arjen Robben. Pep Guardiola stuck to the facts: “Our lead has gone up by another point and we’re closer to retaining the German championship.”

Reaction to Bayern v Schalke

Pep Guardiola: “Our rhythm and our performance in the first half were very good. Congratulations to my team. Our lead has gone up by another point and we’re closer to retaining the German championship.“

Arjen Robben: “All credit to the team. We really enjoyed it today. We played with so much passion. It was one of the best halves of football I’ve seen since joining Bayern. What pace, what aggression. Schalke never got into the match. We overran them in the first half. At the end of the day it’s not about records, it’s about trophies. We have to maintain our rhythm for the big games that are coming up.“

Jens Keller (Schalke 04 coach): “It was a disastrous first half, appalling, catastrophic. We fell apart. We conceded a deflected goal after two and a half minutes. You could see from then on we hadn’t put Wednesday’s defeat to Real behind us. We were frightened and did none of the things we’d said we would do. We owe our fans an apology. We had more courage in the second half. It’s OK to lose here, but not like that.“

Benedikt Höwedes (Schalke 04 captain): “It can’t get any worse than the way we played in the first half. That was a major embarrassment. I’m sorry for the fans who were forced to watch that. In the second half we showed some morale, we fought, we had a few chances and we scored. But then we started making yet more individual errors.“
