Reaction to FCB v Werder

Coach: The win helps our mood

Bayern did the necessary in style with Saturday’s 5-2 win over Werder Bremen - and immediately switched focus to Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final return against Real Madrid. “The win is obviously good for our mood,” commented Pep Guardiola. Two-goal Claudio Pizarro issued a warning: “In the first half we conceded two goals from counter-attacks, and that can’t happen against Real.”

Reaction to FCB v Werder

Pep Guardiola: “I’m a bit disappointed with the first half. Our fans don’t deserve to see a half of football like that. We were better in the second half. The win is obviously good for our mood as we prepare to face Real Madrid. I have total faith in my team and I hope we can pull together and do it.”

Claudio Pizarro: “In the first half we conceded two goals from counter-attacks, and that can’t happen against Real. We have to watch ourselves. We played well in the second half and scored the goals. Winning was important today, and I hope we do it again on Tuesday. I always enjoy it when I play.”

Thomas Müller: “I don’t want to get into today’s game at all. What counts to us is Tuesday. Up to then we need total support from everyone, from everyone connected with the club, and also from the media and the press.”

Robin Dutt (Trainer Bremen): “My team approached the match with great confidence. They closed down the space, won plenty of tackles and scored twice on the break from well-executed counter-attacks. Pep switched things around tactically in the second half and they scored their goals relatively quickly. Overall Bayern deserved to win, but the margin of victory was a little too big.”

Sebastian Prödl (Bremen): “We were very good on the break in the first half and kept it tight at the back. We lost the plot in the second half. Bayern went for goal straight away. They succeeded and we caved in. We kept giving it our best shot and we might have stopped them scoring a couple of their goals. But at the end of the day they were too good for us.”
