It was all quiet on the Säbener Strasse front on Thursday. The lawnmowers were humming gently, the sprinklers spitting out water and the sun beating down – and there was also Dante getting ready for the derby against FC Augsburg (Saturday, from 3.30 pm CET on FCB.tv Web Radio). After a short but intense stint on the training ground, Bayern's main man in the back four went through a session with the physio in the gym. Just before heading for home, he popped in to give fcbayern.de his assessment of this weekend's game.
“The best way of preparing for the return leg against Manchester United is to put on a good display at Augsburg,” declared Dante, who missed the match at Old Trafford due to a one-match ban. In contrast to last Saturday's 3-3 draw with Hoffenheim the Reds will have to be “up for it in terms of challenges” and also be “fully focused”. That will increase the chances of producing a top performance at home to Manchester United on Wednesday.
Dante is expecting a lively encounter with FC Augsburg, currently lying eighth in the Bundesliga. “I remember the cup ties at their place. They were always tricky,” recounted the 30-year-old. And FCA believe they are in with a shout of qualifying for the Europa League. “Although we're already champions we don't want to give anything away by taking our foot off the gas. At the end of the day it's a derby. We need to keep focused and win it for our fans.”
Speaking in Manchester, Matthias Sammer said the team needs to up their game by one or two percent to be ready for the next matches. Dante shares that view. “It all got a bit complicated after winning the league in Berlin, but I think we're back on track now. We’ll up our game again.”
