‘Regroup and refocus’

A year and a half since last losing at home in the Bundesliga German champions Bayern tasted defeat at the Allianz Arena again on Saturday. The 3-0 reverse against Borussia Dortmund was “not the end of the world,” reflected board director for sport Matthias Sammer, although Manuel Neuer admitted Bayern “had a bad day at the office.” The Germany keeper believes everyone at the club should “move on quickly and focus on the future.”

Reaction to FCB v BVB

Matthias Sammer: “We had problems with our rhythm and our build-up play. We didn’t concentrate hard enough in the decisive stages of the game. We all but invited Dortmund to pick us off. We’re champions and the league is done and dusted, so it’s not the end of the world. We have to accept that our players aren’t robots. They have feelings too.“

Pep Guardiola: “We never got going in the first half, although it improved in the last ten minutes. We started the second half well but faded after that. I need to find a way of helping us regain our rhythm. We can reach the cup final on Wednesday. I have faith in this team. Manuel had a minor problem with his calf and we didn’t want to take any risks.“

Manuel Neuer: “We simply had a bad day at the office. We need to move on quickly and focus on the future. We know the challenge that faces us at home to Kaiserslautern and we want to progress to the final in Berlin. It’s important. I’m in no danger of missing out.“
