The Bayern stars gathered at the Säbener Strasse on Easter Monday for a final training session prior to Tuesday morning’s departure for Madrid. For the late afternoon workout, Pep Guardiola took charge of a group comprising 20 outfield players and three goalkeepers. Following a warm-up and pace-building exercises, the public part of the session came to an end as the team turned to tactical drills. Manuel Neuer, who missed the club’s last two matches with a tight calf, completed a second squad session in a row and is no longer a doubt for the Real clash. The only men definitely out are injured foursome Thiago, Xherdan Shaqiri, Holger Badstuber and Tom Starke.
Howard Webb to ref at the Bernabéu
Seasoned English match official Howard Webb has been appointed to referee Wednesday night’s match at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid, UEFA announced on Monday. The 43-year-old took charge of the 2010 World Cup Final and has refereed seven European fixtures involving Bayern, ending in two wins, three draws and two defeats for the Reds. Webb officiated at Bayern’s 2-1 home victory against Real Madrid in the semi-final two years ago, but was also the man in the middle for Bayern’s bitter 4-0 reverse in Barcelona in 2009 and the defeat to Inter Milan in the 2010 final.
Ronaldo fit, Bale doubtful
Real’s Cristiano Ronaldo was officially declared fit again on Monday. Two days prior to the Bayern clash, the World Player of the Year successfully completed the full squad training session in the Spanish capital. By contrast, there is a minor question mark over Gareth Bale. According to the Madrid club the lightning-quick Welshman is suffering with the flu.
