Big day for elated Badstuber

Thursday was a momentous day for FCB defender Holger Badstuber when he completed part of the team training session after 17 months on the sidelines with serious injury. Following the warm-up Badstuber also took part in passing and shooting drills for some 45 minutes before resuming his individual sports rehab programme. “It was a very good moment and a fantastic feeling. It’s a great day for me personally,” commented Badtsuber, who was greeted onto the training ground with a round of applause from his team–mates.

Shaqiri continues recovery

Xherdan Shaqiri is also making a steady recovery from injury. The Swiss international had recovered sufficiently from a ruptured muscle to begin running two weeks ago, and on Thursday intensified his training efforts to a new level, bringing him closer to resuming the squad programme. However, no date has been set for Shaqiri to rejoin the team. “I hope I’m fit for the cup final and might be able to help the team collect the trophy,” Shaq told FCB.tv.

HSV without Zoua and Arslan

Hamburger SV will be without striker Jacques Zoua in the penultimate Bundesliga match of the season at home to Bayern on Saturday. The 22-year-old from Cameroon injured a thigh in Thursday training and seems likely to have pulled a muscle. “No-one’s exactly doing us any favours,” reflected boss Mirko Slomka, referring to the relegation-threatened club’s long injury list. Striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga has been out for weeks and will return for the final match of the season away to Mainz at the earliest, with Tolgay Arslan serving a ban this weekend. On the positive side Rafael van der Vaart and Heiko Westermann have both reported fit.
