Green named in US World Cup squad

Congratulations from Bayern fans everywhere to Julian Green! The 18-year-old FC Bayern II shooting star has been named in USA’s final 23-man squad for the World Cup in Brazil. US head coach Jürgen Klinsmann took the footballing world by surprise on Thursday when he opted to publish his final roster for the global showdown nine days before the official deadline for submitting the official lists. Green takes the place of veteran former FCB man Landon Donovan, who has been struggling with a knee injury for months. The 32-year-old Donovan appeared at three World Cup tournaments, and has won a total of 156 senior caps. He holds USA national team records with a total of 57 goals, and five goals at the World Cup finals.

Giorgio Armani unveiled as official fashion partner

FC Bayern München is delighted to unveil Giorgio Armani as the club’s new Fashion and Luxury Clothing partner. For the three years commencing 2014/15 the players and management will wear suits from the Giorgio Armani Made to Measure Collection. “Guardiola’s Bayern are a top international team with unique athletes,” commented Giorgio Armani. “This is why I’ve again decided to partner with a leading club and supply the team with bespoke made-to-measure suits. These perfectly-tailored contemporary luxury items are an optimal fit to a club like Bayern.” FC Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge commented: “We’re very proud we’ll be fitted out in future by the maestro of the fashion world, Giorgio Armani in person. It means FC Bayern are top in football and in fashion.”

Individual training for Schweinsteiger

Bayern vice-captain Bastian Schweinsteiger missed the DFB Cup final with an inflamed kneecap but was present at the first training session of Germany’s South Tyrol training camp in St. Leonhard on Thursday, although the 29-year-old completed an individual rehab programme and is likely to do so for the next few days. The German FA (DFB) medical unit will monitor the player’s progress “very carefully,” assistant coach Hansi Flick advised.

Alaba sidelined for Austria

David Alaba is out of Austria’s friendlies against Iceland on 30 May and away to the Czech Republic on 3 June. The full-back will be out of action for around four weeks after pulling a stomach muscle. The 21-year-old is expected to be fit in time for the official start of pre-season training at Bayern on 9 July. Alaba sustained the injury on the eve of the DFB Cup final against Borussia Dortmund and was forced to cede his place to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
