Mandzu brace as Croats cruise

Mario Mandzukic frustratingly missed the opening match at the World Cup in Brazil with suspension, but the Bayern hitman was in action for Croatia in their second group fixture against Cameroon on Wednesday night, making an instant impression with a second-half brace. Six days after an unlucky reverse to the hosts, the East Europeans cruised to a 4-0 victory over the demoralised Africans. Mandzukic found the net after 61 and 73 minutes, with former Bayern favourite Ivica Olic opening the floodgates after 11 minutes and Wolfsburg’s Ivan Perisic doubling the early lead three minutes into the second half. In the Group A standings the Croats have three points from their two matches and will make the last sixteen if they beat Mexico next Monday. Cameroon and their former Freiburg coach Volker Finke are already out of the tournament.
