Arjen Robben has been outstanding for FC Bayern this season - and the Dutchman is bang on form just ahead of the World Cup in Brazil. Bayern's wizard on the wing was again voted Man of the Match in Holland's 2-0 win in a friendly against Wales in Amsterdam on Wednesday night. Robben opened the scoring on 32 minutes and, at the end of an excellent solo run, provided the assist for the second from Jeremain Lens on 76 minutes. However, in a repeat of the 1-0 win against Ghana on Saturday, Louis van Gaal's team failed to impress.
'Everything going to plan' for Neuer
Manuel Neuer joined Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger at the Säbener Strasse training ground this week. He will meet up with the Germany squad in Brazil on Saturday. And Neuer is ready for the World Cup despite the shoulder injury that sidelined him after the DFB Cup final: “Everything's going to plan,” announced the world's top keeper on Thursday morning via Facebook. The last friendly before the World Cup against Armenia on Friday has come too early for Neuer. Lahm and Schweinsteiger are expected to play at least part of the game.
Brazil's Ronaldo raves about Müller
Record goalscorer Ronaldo rates Thomas Müller is one of the potential top stars at the World Cup in Brazil. “He's not just an excellent player. He won the Golden Boot at the World Cup when he was 21 and he wasn't even a centre forward. Not everybody can do that,” wrote Ronaldo in a column for the dpa news agency. In addition to Bayern striker Müller, the former Brazil star named Franck Ribéry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and his fellow countryman Neymar as potential superstars at the World Cup.
Ex-FCB stopper Ismael new FCN coach
Former Bayern pro Valérien Ismael has been appointed as the new head coach at FC Nürnberg, the Franconia club announced on Thursday. The 38-year-old was previously U-23 coach at VfL Wolfsburg but now takes over from Gertjan Verbeek as the helm of the relegated side from Nuremberg. Ismael played for FC Bayern from 2005 to the winter break in the 2007/08 campaign.
Emre Can joins Liverpool
Emre Can is leaving Bayer Leverkusen after just one season to join Liverpool. According to Bayer 04, the Premier League side have triggered a release clause in the Germany U-21 midfielder’s contract. Can left Bayern for Leverkusen last summer.
Breitner to open ’54 World Cup exhibition
The World Cup in Brazil starts in a matter of days - and the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt is also focusing on the greatest show on earth. FCB legend Paul Breitner, a World Cup winner in 1974, will open a special exhibition dedicated to the 1954 World Cup at the biggest club museum in Germany at 11 am CET on 11 June. A wide range of exhibits will recall the 'Miracle of Berne' when Germany won their first World Cup. Highlights include a seat from the stadium in Berne, a clock awarded to every player in Sepp Herberger's team, and exclusive film material from the Final between Germany and Hungary. Breitner will be signing autographs at the Erlebniswelt from noon.
