Both the players and the 500 or so spectators broke sweat at the Säbener Strasse HQ on Sunday morning when Pep Guardiola supervised a team training session. With temperatures already touching 30 degrees Celsius the FCB head coach prepared his men for Monday’s friendly away to MSV Duisburg (6.30 pm CET, live on SPORT1, highlights on FCB.tv). Two stars resumed the full squad programme: Robert Lewandowski, who missed last Friday’s Dream Game with a sprain, and Diego Contento. The full-back underwent minor surgery on his knee over the summer and took part in the team workout for the first time in the new season.
Bavarian sports award for Müller-Wohlfahrt
Dr Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, FC Bayern chief medical officer since 1977, was recently one of the most important backroom figures at the World Cup for Germany, where he has been national team doctor since 1995. ‘Healing Hans’ ensured Manuel Neuer recovered from a serious shoulder injury in time, and restored Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger to full fitness. On Saturday evening, Müller-Wohlfahrt was awarded the Bavarian Sports Prize for outstanding service to sport by the state’s Minister President Horst Seehofer at a gala ceremony in Munich. The jury citation read: “Without Müller-Wohlfahrt’s commitment and tireless efforts in helping athletes quickly regain fitness, many team and individual performances in the past would not have been possible.”
