Shaq is back – and Julian too

Players continue to return from their summer vacation and begin pre-season training at the club. Xherdan Shaqiri and Julian Green joined the team workout at the Säbener Strasse facility on Monday morning. Following on from Javi Martínez, it meant Pep Guardiola was able to welcome back another two World Cup players. “I’m happy we’re getting started again at last,” revealed Shaqiri in an interview with, “I was able to switch off on holiday and ignore football for most of the time.”

Sammer praises new signing Rode

Sebastian Rode was in the starting eleven on both days of the Telekom Cup at the weekend. He crowned his promising performance with a fine goal in Sunday’s 3-0 win in the Final. “He’s really impressed me,” declared Matthias Sammer, “you can’t forget he was injured at the end of February.” Rode joined FCB from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer. A cartilage injury sidelined the 23-year-old for the second half of last term.

Skiing stars welcome FCB in NYC

The FC Bayern pros will get VIP support at the friendly against Chivas Guadalajara as part of the Audi Summer Tour USA 2014. Three-time Olympic Gold medallist Maria-Höfl Riesch and four-time World Cup winner Lindsay Vonn will take part in the opening ceremony at the Red Bull Arena in New York. FCB play the Mexican top-flight side on 1 August (kick-off 2 am CET) in the first of two friendlies on the USA tour.
