19-year stint at FCB

Contento set for move to Bordeaux

After an extraordinary 19 years at FC Bayern, Diego Contento is poised to leave his hometown club after FCB agreed the terms of a transfer to French Ligue 1 outfit Girondins Bordeaux. Contento will travel to France in the next few days to attend to the formalities and complete the obligatory pre-transfer medical. FC Bayern will retain 50 percent of the transfer rights to the player, with the remaining 50 percent assigned to Bordeaux.

The Munich-born German-Italian first played at Bayern in July 1995 as a five-year-old and has amassed an impressive medal collection including the 2013 treble. Provided the transfer goes ahead as planned, the 24-year-old’s new head coach in Bordeaux will be former Munich legend Willy Sagnol.
