Sammer’s praise for Badstuber

Holger Badstuber is cutting a determined figure in the USA at the moment, leading from the front in every training session. “I can shoulder the full burden and I’m feeling good,” the 25-year-old said after the Sunday workout in Portland. FCB sporting director Matthias Sammer is extremely impressed: “I never believed Holger would be this far along the road to recovery at this stage.” Badstuber, who was sidelined for nearly a year and a half with cruciate ligament damage, says he is “totally relaxed. I’m just delighted I can play football again. I’m making no demands.”

Green fit again

Bayern youngster and USA international Julian Green stands a good chance of featuring in the MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday evening. The 19-year-old has shaken off a knee injury and completed the team training sessions in Portland on Saturday and Sunday. The striker was unable to play in the Audi Football Summit between FCB and Chivas in New Jersey.

Marketing events in Portland

In between Sunday’s two training sessions, a handful of the players were on marketing duty for FCB sponsors. Robert Lewandowski, David Alaba and Javi Martínez took part in a photo shoot for Audi, with Claudio Pizarro and Rafinha visiting a Paulaner brewery pub. Elsewhere, Julian Green signed autographs in a T-Mobile Store, to the delight of a huge crowd.
